i4118 Foundation (i4118) is a For Impact organisation that has been mentoring children and teenagers, who have experienced abuse and neglect, and other individuals from at-risk communities, through long-term mentoring for more than six years. This mentoring helps the children and teenagers heal while providing them with tools to make positive life choices and friendships that will last them a lifetime and reduce or avoid negative behaviors.
Despite the benefits, research shows that one in three young people will grow up without a mentor in their lives. If you consider the significant role that mentors play in the lives of young people, reinforcing a value system, setting discipline, and help give a sense of identity and purpose, then you can understand why we are sitting with social issues like unemployment, and GBV.
Gavin Meyers
Director
i4118's main objective is to mentor children and teens so they can grow up to be accountable, productive members of society. We are confident that by providing a future generation with long-term mentorship, focusing on character development, mental health, and healing, we can help them develop strong family and community values. As our mentee’s progress through our program, we identify and mentor some of them to become"big brothers and sisters" and our ultimate goal being for them to one day become mentors themselves.
As we learn more about the difficulties that the children and their parents experience and develop solid relationships with them, we are better able to speak into their lives.
Even though we cannot alter the surroundings or conditions in which they live, we can teach them how to manage their predicament, assist them in breaking the behaviour cycles that keep them stuck, and show them that their perception of themselves, not their circumstances, defines who they are.
